Manager is the interface to the heart of ShipConstructor: the powerful SQL Server based central database. For smaller users, ShipConstructor comes with a free version of the Microsoft Desktop Engine, which provides most of the SQL Server functions and power for up to 5 concurrent users.

Manager provides a powerful permissions system giving each user exactly the privileges they require, while maintaining security against accidental data loss.

Assembly reports provide up-to-date weight and CG for each part and assembly, while profile reports provide accurate cut lists for each profile in the ship on an assembly-by-assembly basis including the raw profiles needed. Nest and pipe reports complete the production documentation.
The reporting functions remain unique in the industry, including automatically composed assemblies, spools, and workshop drawings (based on user defined AutoCAD templates), and custom text reports.

This is a list of features incorporated into the ShipConstructor Manager module. This is not a comprehensive listing, if you have any inquiries regarding additional features, please contact us.

  Capabilities & New features

Manager Interface
Manager serves as a replacement for the MS Access database interface portion of ShipReport. It builds upon the features and utilities included in the previous versions of ShipReport.

SQL Server 2000 Support
Like the rest of ShipConstructor, Manager is integrated with SQL Server 2000 giving all the advantages of a true client-server architecture. With this approach vital data is separated from the client interface. This also affords better speed and stability, as well as improved security.

Administration Tools
Manager provides all of the necessary tools to perform routine database maintenance, scheduled database backups, updates, user administration, and many other project related tasks
.

User Security
ShipConstructor contains in-depth user privilege levels. Users can perform only those tasks for which they have been given the appropriate permissions in Manager. This restricts changes to the project to those who are qualified and authorized to make the changes
.

Crystal Reports
Manager uses Crystal Reports, an industry standard data-driven reporting tool, to provide reporting functionality that is faster and easier to use than ever before.

Piping Reports
To complement the ShipConstructor - Piping module, Manager includes a set of reports specifically designed for piping. These reports include pipe stock reports per PWBS or SWBS level and structural penetration reports
.

Nesting & Cutting
Manager provides a simple yet powerful way to assign cutting machines and processing specific information to each plate stock separately.

Multiple remnants per nest are supported in the database design. Manager keeps track of the remnants and provides them as optional plates for new nests. Remnants of "like/mirror" nests are also supported and may be used for "like/mirror" cuts or individual like cuts.

The layout of nest reports has been improved, and more options have been added to the way nest reports can be created. Limit the report to specific units or report for all nests in all units. Values, such as utilization, and weight of scrap are calculated on-the-fly as the reports are generated, and are thus guaranteed to be up-to-date to the last second.

Common Project Settings
A project involves many draftsmen and engineers. It is important to use the same drafting standards, such as layers, line types and colors. Manager supplies Structure with these settings for production. The settings are centrally controlled through the Settings dialog in Manager.

Libraries for Materials & Procedures
Libraries store commonly used materials, equipment and procedures. The libraries are grouped into several sections:

  • Stock Library
  • Endcut Library
  • Flange Library
  • Material Library
  • Paint Library
  • NC Machine Library

ShipConstructor comes with two libraries of metric and imperial profiles and plates of commonly used steel items. Using the library interface and Structure/AutoCAD to draft cross-sections of profiles or cutouts, it is quick and easy to customize the libraries.

Assembly Structure (PWBS)
ShipConstructor utilizes advanced relational database features to implement an assembly structure or Product Work Breakdown Structure (PWBS) mechanism that is easy to use and lets users manipulate very large and complex ship designs.

Use the Build Strategy Tree to design the PWBS using a similar procedure to working with the standard Windows File Explorer. Individual parts are later added by the draftsmen or loftsmen when defining them in Structure. The arrangement of parts can be easily changed for production planning using the Build Strategy Tree.

Weights & CG
Anytime a designer adds or changes a part in the product model, the changes are recorded in the database automatically. All weight and CG data are automatically calculated by the Structure program and updated in the database. The new data, including a list of revisions, is immediately available to anyone logged into the project
.

Profile + Pipe Reports
Profile reports are a fundamental ingredient to saving time and money in the shipyard. Since Manager can produce these reports for any assembly just-in-time (JIT) and absolutely up-to-date, it is possible for smaller yards to implement group technology
